Brighton Bay Hotel Opens Solar-Powered Wing
By Carol Mendez
Brighton Bay Hotel unveiled a new 80-room wing on Friday that its owners say is the first in the region to be powered entirely by solar energy. The $14 million wing includes rooms with large balconies, a rooftop garden where herbs and vegetables are grown for the hotel's restaurant, and charging stations for electric cars.
General manager Lena Fischer said the project took three years and was inspired by guest surveys showing a strong interest in sustainable travel. Rates in the new wing start at $210 per night, about 15 percent higher than in the older building. "Guests have told us they are willing to pay a little more," she said.
The hotel hopes to convert its older building to solar power within five years.

Dear Property Manager,
Many of my clients are elderly. Is the side entrance accessible to them? I also have an important client meeting on August 9 at 10:00 A.M. I am concerned that the noise will be a problem. Is there anything you can do?
Thank you,

Dear Ms. Lin,
The side entrance has a ramp and an automatic door. As for noise, the loud work is limited to 8:00 to 11:00 A.M., so we recommend scheduling meetings after 11:00 A.M. If your meeting must be at 10:00, you may use Conference Room 3 on the second floor, which is quiet. Please reserve it at the front desk.

Council Considers Parking Fees
By Nora Webb
The Millford City Council is considering a plan to charge for parking on downtown streets. Under the proposal, drivers would pay $1.50 per hour between 8:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. on weekdays, with the first 15 minutes free. The money would be used to repair sidewalks and add bike racks.
Supporters say the fees will free up spaces for shoppers. A final vote is scheduled for November 12.
To the Editor:
I own a shop on Main Street, and I am worried about the proposed parking fees. Many of my customers stop by for just a few minutes, but others stay for an hour or more. If they have to pay, they may go to the mall, which offers free parking. I urge the council to make the first hour free.
