Greenville Introduces Bag Fee
Beginning January 1, stores in Greenville will charge ten cents for each plastic shopping bag. The city council approved the fee on Monday by a vote of 6 to 1.
The money collected will go to a fund for city parks, not to the stores. Customers who bring their own reusable bags will not pay. Bags used for fresh produce, meat, and prescription medicine are exempt from the fee.
Some store owners worry that the fee will annoy customers. Supermarket manager Rob Chen said his store will sell reusable bags at cost. "We want to make the change as easy as possible," he said.

Daybreak Coffee to Build Roastery
By Anna Ruiz
PORTLAND — Daybreak Coffee, a chain of 40 cafés in the Northwest, will open its own roasting facility next spring in Salem, ending its long-standing arrangement with outside suppliers. Company founder Ellen Burke said the roastery will allow the chain to control quality and shorten delivery times. "Today our beans travel four days from the roaster to our cafés. After the move, it will be one," she said.
The $6 million facility will also include a visitor center where customers can take tours and taste coffees. The project will create about 35 jobs, most of them in production, and the company plans to hire locally.
Ms. Burke added that prices at the cafés will not change as a result. Some industry experts, however, doubt that the company can avoid raising prices if the cost of coffee beans continues to increase.

Please send a corrected invoice by Friday. We would like to pay within 10 days to receive the discount.
