Subject: Thursday's budget meeting
Hi Priya,
I'm sorry to say that I can't attend the budget meeting on Thursday at 2:00 P.M. because my flight to Chicago has been moved up. I will be back in the office on Friday. Would it be possible to reschedule the meeting for Friday afternoon?
If not, I can send my comments to you in writing beforehand. I have already reviewed the draft numbers from Accounting and have only two concerns, both about travel costs. Please let me know which you prefer.
Best,
Daniel

From Kitchen Table to Main Street
When Elena Vargas started baking bread in her home kitchen in 2012, she never imagined her business would one day employ twenty people. Vargas began by selling loaves to neighbors and a nearby café. Demand grew quickly, and in 2015 she rented a small shop on Main Street.
Last month, Vargas Bakery opened a second location near the train station. It opens at 6:00 A.M. to serve commuters. "Our customers kept asking for earlier hours," Vargas said. The new shop also introduces a line of gluten-free breads developed with a local nutritionist.
Vargas says she has no plans to expand further. "I want to stay small enough to know our customers by name," she said.

City Council Approves Bike Lane Plan
By Jorge Alves, Staff Writer
[1] The Westfield City Council voted 7 to 2 on Tuesday to build 12 kilometers of protected bike lanes along Harbor Road and Elm Avenue. [2] Construction will begin in September and is expected to be completed within a year. The project will cost $3.4 million, of which 60 percent will be covered by a regional transportation grant. Supporters argue that the lanes will reduce traffic and make cycling safer. Councilmember Dana Wu, who voted in favor, pointed to a recent study showing that the number of cyclists in the city has doubled in five years. [3] Opponents, however, worry about the loss of 150 street parking spaces. Business owner Tom Reyes said that customers "will go elsewhere if they can't park nearby." [4] To address these concerns, the council has promised to open a new parking lot near Elm Avenue by next spring.

Re: Changes to Parking
Date: August 22
Beginning September 9, the parking lot on Wells Street will be reserved for clients and visitors. Staff members with permits for the Wells Street lot should switch to the Kingsley Garage, located two blocks east. Permits will be exchanged free of charge at the front desk between August 26 and September 6. Please bring your current permit.
Monthly fees at Kingsley Garage are $20 higher than at the Wells Street lot, and the firm will cover the difference for the first six months. Staff who commute by bicycle or public transportation may apply for a monthly transit allowance of $40 instead of a parking permit.
Because the garage has limited spaces, permits will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Employees who do not receive a permit will be placed on a waiting list.
Tanaka Textiles Marks 50 Years
OSAKA — Tanaka Textiles, a family-owned maker of cotton fabrics, will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary this Saturday with an open house at its main factory. Founded in 1974 by Shigeru Tanaka with just six looms, the company now supplies fabric to clothing makers in nine countries.
Visitors will be able to tour the factory floor, watch demonstrations by weavers, and buy fabric ends at half price. A talk by Yuki Tanaka, the founder's granddaughter and current president, will begin at 1:00 P.M. in the main hall. Ms. Tanaka plans to discuss the company's recent switch to solar power, which has reduced its electricity costs by about a third.
